Ángela Álvarez Vélez

Writer, editor, and storytelling consultant

I help people tell better stories to themselves and others

I help organizations and individuals communicate more clearly, thoughtfully, and authentically through storytelling and narrative thinking.

My work sits at the intersection of writing, culture, and communication. I work with authors, creatives, and institutions to shape ideas, strengthen voice, and develop stories that resonate, on the page and beyond.

Whether I’m supporting a writer through a manuscript, leading a workshop, or helping an organization clarify its message, my focus is the same: to bring clarity, coherence, and intention to the stories we tell.

Selected Experience

I bring over two decades of experience across writing, communication, and education, working with individuals, organizations, and institutions in a wide range of contexts.

Podcast Host

Creator of When Home is a Foreign Word, a 20+ episode podcast exploring identity, migration, and belonging through conversations around food, family, and cultural experience.

Teaching & Workshops

I have taught writing, communication, and critical reading at the university level for five years, and have led workshops and talks on storytelling, diversity, nonverbal communication, and creative writing. My work includes sessions with platforms such as Authors Publish, as well as one-on-one and group work with participants ranging from educators to public figures.

Editorial & Story Development

I work with both individuals and organizations on memoir, fiction, essays, and academic writing, including graduate theses. My approach combines editorial rigor with narrative clarity, helping clients shape ideas into coherent, compelling pieces across multiple forms of digital, print and traditional media.

I have a background in journalism and mass communication, with a specialization in cultural studies, along with additional training in education and narrative therapy. I am also a licensed translator.

My experience spans media, education, and consulting, including work with newspapers, magazines, radio, universities, schools, corporations, artists, and political candidates—supporting projects that require clarity, nuance, and strong communication.
